ABSTRACT:
Nifedipine, a potent calcium-channel blocker which is use in treatment of hypertension belonging from BCS class II with poor solubility and bioavailability. The present investigational study purpose was to improve nifedipine solubility with help of liquisolid system. Nifedipine was dissolved in a appropriate non-volatile solvent (Transcutol) to make uniform suspension which was further mixed with various carriers (Avicel Ph 102, neusilin, fujicalin), coating material (Syloid) creating admixture with a free-flowing and direct compressible. Six batches were prepared using different loading factor (Lf) and carrier coating factor (R) 20. The optimised batch was selected based upon the % drug release. Liquisolid compact tablet was prepared by direct compression. FTIR analysis was used to confirm the drug-excipient interaction. A dissolution study was conducted on prepared liquisolid tablets and it was found that the formulation batch F-2 has shown optimum dissolution of nifedipine. The batches prepared were evaluated for the disintegration time, dissolution, hardness, friability, DSC, XDR. The optimised batch was showing higher percentage of drug dissolution.
