ABSTRACT:
Phytotherapy, an ancient practice rooted in the medicinal properties of plants and herbs, integrates scientific understanding with traditional wisdom to offer diverse therapeutic options for preventive and curative healthcare. Phytochemicals found in plants exhibit multifaceted mechanisms in inhibiting cancer development and progression, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and apoptosis-causing effects demonstrate a wide range of therapeutic applications such as neuroprotection, antimicrobial activity, blood sugar regulation, and anti-inflammatory effects. In the context of combating cancer, phytotherapy stands out as a promising complementary approach alongside conventional treatments like surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy which are associated with minimal to adverse side effects. These compounds intervene in crucial cellular pathways implicated in carcinogenesis, offering a comprehensive strategy for cancer prevention and treatment. Moreover, beyond cancer, this review article discusses the diverse array of medicinal herbs and their active compounds underscoring the cancer therapeutic potential of paving the way for future research and holistic healthcare approach in oncology and sustainable goals.
