ABSTRACT:
The ethanolic extract of heart wood of the plant Caesalpinia sappan obtained was dried under vacuum and subjected to anti oxidant activity using in vitro models such as DPPH radical scavenging, nitric oxide scavenging, and hydroxyl
radical scavenging. Preliminary phytochemical screening was carried out to find different phyto constituents present in the ethanol extract of C. sappan. The extract exhibited the presence of important compounds such as flavanoids, glycosides, protein. The extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity which was comparable with the standards employed.
