ABSTRACT:
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the comparative anthelmintic activity of crude hydro alcoholic extracts of leaves and seeds of Capparis zeylanica Linn. belonging to family Caparidaceae and its different fractions namely Petroleum ether, chloroform and methanol using Indian adult earthworms, Pherentima posthuma as test worms. Various concentrations (10-40 mg/ml) of hydro alcoholic extracts and its various fractions were tested in the bioassay, which involved determination of time of paralysis (P) and time of death (D) of the worms. Albendazole was included as standard reference and distilled water as control. The results of present study indicated that the seeds crude hydro alcoholic extract and its chloroform and methanol fractions significantly showed paralysis and also caused death of worms especially at higher concentration of 40 mg/ml, as compared to standard reference Albendazole.
