ABSTRACT:
From the petroleum ether extract of the roots of Carissa carandas Linn. (Apocynaceae), three compounds namely lupeol, ß-sitosterol, 16ß-hydroxybetulinic acid and from the chloroform extract two compounds namely a-amyrin and ß-sitosterol glycoside have been isolated by column chromatography. Their structures were characterized by m.p., IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and MS spectral data. However, the compounds lupeol, 16ß-hydroxybetulinic acid and a-amyrin were reported for the first time from the roots of this plant.
