ABSTRACT:
The present study was designed to develop almotriptan tablets and invitro evaluation of almotriptan tablets, an anti-migraine drug. Since the innovator product Axert formula is being protected by IPR patent in connection with working formula, the efforts were made to develop with different process and different formula. In this study, the tablets were prepared by different formulations using sodium starch glycolate, povidone K-30, mannitol and MCC, based on trial and error basis. The compatibility of various excipients with the almotriptan was done using HPLC studies. The formulated tablets were subjected to evaluation for thickness, hardness, bulk density, tapped density, hausner ratio, compressibility index, stability studies and invitro release studies. The evaluated results of innovator physico-chemical parameters have been authorized as standard parameters for our new attempt of generic product development. The formulation F0809 showed the optimum evaluated parameters to that of the innovator and found to be stable under accelerated studies of temperature and humidity.
