ABSTRACT:
In the last few decades there has been an extraordinary growth in the field of herbal medicine. In ayurveda, most of the drugs were given in the form of powder, kasaya (decoction form) or bhasma. The different extracts of different parts of plants showed promising pharmacological activity. In the present study an attempt was made to formulate herbal gel containing Aloe vera, Azadirachta indica and Lycopersicon esculentum seed extract. The different concentration of polymers were taken for the formulation of gel. Gel was further subjected to evaluation of Physical properties like colour, clarity, pH, consistency, Spreadability and viscosity. The evaluation for Antibacterial and Antifungal activity was done using cup plate method . HPMC in concentration of 2-3% showed the consistency and viscosity required for topical administration. Zone of inhibition was between 15-23 for S. aureus, 18-22 for E.coli. 15-25 for A. niger and A. varis. The gel showed promising Antibacterial and Antifungal activity against other strains used for the study. The gel was stable at room temperature.
