ABSTRACT:
The leaves of Solanum erianthum D. Don (Solanaceae) were extracted by soxhelt apparatus with 70% hydroalcoholic solvent. The extract of this plant showed significant antibacterial and antifungal effect against most of the pathogenic organisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichi coli, Candida albicans, Aspergillus fumigates, with especially good activity against soame infectious bacteria (Escherichi coli and Staphylococcus aureus) and it was found with no fungal activity against fungal pathogens. Phytochemical screening of the extract showed the presence of a number of bioactive constituents such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, steroids etc. The wound healing potential of this plant was found to be comparably better than that of the commercial product Povidone-Iodine.
