ABSTRACT:
The present study aims at designing and developing a buccal Mucoadhesive Tablet of Fluconazole using mucoadhesive polymers like Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC), Sodium Carboxy Methyl Celluose (Sodium CMC), Carpobol 934 and Ethyl Cellulose and study various evaluation parameters like ex-vivo mucoadhesive strength, drug content , in-vitro dissolution, swelling index and in-vitro drug release. Tablets were prepared by direct compression and Non aqueous granulation method and evaluated for their parameters. A total of 9 formulations were prepared for further studies and analysis. The physical parameters and drug content of tablets was found within acceptable limits.. Formulation F7 was found to show best results. The drug release behavior was found to be controlled by diffusion mechanism and followed zero order kinetics. All tablets were observed to have acceptable parameters. FTIR studies showed no evidence of interaction between drug and polymers. The results indicate that suitable mucoadhesive buccal tablet with desired property can be prepared.
