ABSTRACT:
Objective: Obstructive Sleep apnea is the most common sleep-disordered breathing abnormality. A growing body of evidence confirms strong associations between OSA and cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, left ventricular dysfunction, and arrhythmias. The objective of the study to assess the obstructive sleep apnea is a risk factor among patients with cardiovascular disorder. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted with 50 samples who met the inclusion criteria. STOP Bang tool was used to assess the risk of obstructive sleep apnea among cardiovascular patients. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The present study observed that out 50 samples, 23(46%) of them had high risk of obstructive sleep apnea, 17(34%) had intermediate risk of obstructive sleep apnea and 10(20%) of them had low risk of obstructive sleep apnea. The overall mean and standard deviation score of level of risk for obstructive sleep apnea was 3.96±1.43. The present study significantly associated the level of risk of obstructive sleep apnea with the demographic variables such as age, sex and body mass index at the level of P<0.05. Conclusion: Obstructive sleep apnea is an unrecognized and underdiagnosed medical condition which cause negative consequences on patients' health and society as a whole. It should be assessed among risky group thereby can prevent the potential complications of OSA
