ABSTRACT:
Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze the C-reactive protein and its association with cardiovascular disease patients. Introduction: Cardiovascular disease has a high prevalence in India. Circulating levels of C-Reactive protein (CRP) is found to be increased in cardiovascular disease which may be used as a marker for diagnosis purpose. Materials and method: 60 patients were selected from those attending the outpatient department of a private hospital and divided into two groups. 30 normal healthy individuals with normal BMI (19.9-24.9) were included in group I. 30 patients with cardiovascular disease were included in group II. Informed consent was obtained from the patient before sample collection. 3ml of venous blood was collected and distributed in plain collection tubes and centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 minutes. Then serum was separated and analysed to estimate the CRP by Turbilatex Method using ERBA CHEM 5 plus analyser. Results: The level of C Reactive protein was significantly high in cardiovascular disease patients compared to control group. The CRP of the control group was 3.26±1.31 and that of the cardiovascular patients were 10.67±4.09 (P=0.001). Conclusion: Early diagnosis and proper treatment are necessary to manage morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular diseases. CRP may be used as a marker as there is a visible increase in CRP in this condition.
