ABSTRACT:
The home is the first place where the child learns to contact with the society. Family provides social, moral, emotional, spiritual, intellectual well-being of the child. This family may be broken or stable. Broken homes occur due to natural causes or human causes. Natural causes include death of single of the parent and human causes include divorce or separation of the parents. There are 2.7 million who live with a single mother and 200,000 with a lone father. A further 500,000 are in cohabiting step families, and 400,000 are in married step families. Objectives: To assess the influence of broken homes on academic performance among adolescence and to find out association between the selected demographic variables with influence of broken homes on academic performance among adolescence. Methods: Descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. The research was conducted in government school of community setting. The sample size for this study consisted of 60 adolescents selected with the use of purposive sampling technique from secondary schools in Royapettai. Results: Among 60 samples, out of 12(20%) had mild influence; 31(51.7%) had moderate influence; 17(28.3%) had severe influence.
