ABSTRACT:
Hyperlipidemia and high levels of reactive oxygen species in the body are key factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. The present study was designed to investigate the Hypolipidemic and antioxidant activity of an herbal concoction prepared from leaves of Artocarpus heterophyllus, Mimusops elengi and Talinum portulacifolium. Hyperlipidemia is induced in rats by Triton WR-1339. The concoction showed significant reduction in all serum lipid parameters, together the results showed increase in antioxidant levels and decrease in proxidant levels. Fortunately when histopathology of carotid artery is observed indicating that the concoction can also exert antithrombotic activity to some extent.
