ABSTRACT:
A solution of zomepirac in methanol was irradiated with UVA light (?=254) in Rayonet photochemical reactor. Photoproducts obtained were isolated and characterized on the basis of IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Photochemical behavior of zomepirac was also studied in presence of copper (ii) ions. Copper at very low levels of concentration, modulates the distribution of zomepirac stable photoproducts as well as inhibits the DNA cleavage photo induced by the drug, via a highly efficient electron transfer process with the main transient species generated in the zomepirac photolysis.
