ABSTRACT:
Background: Bronchial asthma is an inflammatory respiratory disease characterized by increased hyper responsiveness of the tracheobronchial tree. The manifestations come as recurring episode of dyspnea, wheezing and coughing. This disease could affect the oral health; as a result asthmatic patients may have a elevated hazard of increasing dental infections and periodontitis. This work was achieved conduct to evaluate the caries experience and Oral health status among asthmatic patients using Ventoline inhaler. Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 30 male asthmatic patients with an age range 19-24years (under Ventoline inhaler). The control group includes 30 subject matter matches with group under study in age and gender. DMFS index was using to record caries experience, while dental plaque; gingival, calculus index and clinical pocket depth were used for recording periodontal health assessments. Stimulated salivary samples were collected and then saliva acidity (pH) and run was determined. Results: The mean value of dental caries (DMFS, Decay, Missing, Filling surfaces), plaque index (PlI), gingival (GI), calculus index (CalI) and clinical pocket depth (Po.D) was higher among study group in comparing with control group with statistically highly significant difference except for CI (P > 0.05) . The mean value of dental caries (DMFS), pH of saliva and the rate of flow be valued not significantly for both groups. Conclusions: Individuals with asthma have a higher caries prevalence, worse oral cleanliness compared to the control group, so a special preventive programs need to be designed for those patients.
