ABSTRACT:
Scalp Yeast infection is mainly caused by the organism Candida. The symptoms include itchy and flaky rash on scalp. This disease needs an effective therapeutic remedy like shampoo, which can control yeast infections and prevent the excess accumulation of dandruff and help in the removal of dirt, grease, skin debris, and excess sebum on the scalp. As an alternative to synthetic shampoo, which has many side effects like dryness, loss of hair, eye and scalp irritation, we can use shampoo that contains herbal ingredients. The ingredients used in this study are plants such as Merremia tridentata (Muthiyarkoonthal), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Hibiscus), Eclipta alba (Bringraj), Sapindusmukorossigaertn (soap nut), Acacia concinna (shikakai), and Prunus amygdalus (almond gum). The plant is extracted, and its crude extract is used for the formulation of the shampoo and for phytochemical testing and the antifungal susceptibility test is carried out to check whether the plant extract has the ability to inhibit the scalp yeast infection caused byCandida labiduridarum. The formulated shampoo is evaluated by various tests like visual appearance, dirt dispersion, foaming index, pH, solid content, skin irritation and stability testing. The organism that causes dandruff is isolated from the patient who has yeast infection in scalp. This study is aimed at formulating and evaluating herbal shampoo and checking the antifungal activity of the plant extract used for the formulation against Candida labiduridarum.
