ABSTRACT:
The present work aims to investigate the anti-cataract activity of Eugenol, a key compound in betel leaf extract, by developing and evaluating its formulation as an eye ointment. This research deals with determining the anti-cataract activity of Piper betel leaf extract using a glucose-induced cataract model in goat eyes, develop and evaluate an eye ointment formulation incorporating betel leaf extract for cataract treatment, and finally compares the efficacy of the betel leaf extract-based formulation with ascorbic acid in preventing or mitigating cataract formation. Existing literature deals with ointment preparation based on complete betel leaf whereas this paper gives evaluation and formulation method for finding the essential composition of betel leaf such as Eugenol which has greater anti-oxidant property and will be suitable for anti-cataract activity. The proposed linear model with high R2 value (0.9983) is highly accurate in predicting drug diffusion over time.
