ABSTRACT:
Isopropyl alcohol based novel hand sanitizer has gained more attention over the last several decades due to its reputable medicinal properties and from different pharmaceutical, health care product has been manufactured. The aims of our studied were to formulate and evaluate alcohol based herbal hand sanitizer containing, aloe vera and Tulsi to determine the effectiveness of the against bacteria on the palms of the hands. The production of herbal alcohol based hand sanitizers from locally grown medicinal plants namely; aloe-vera and Tulsi was achieved by obtaining the plants, grinding and performing ethanolic extraction for 72hrs on them. Three different method suitable for formulated novel hand sanitizer. The chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts were screened for antimicrobial activity using standard methods. This ethanolic extract in combination with glycerin and absolute ethanol were used for the final preparation. The anti-microbial activity of the formulated herbal hand wash was tested against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus Candida albicans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by agar pour techniques and the studied obtained were compared with commercial antibacterial standards. Result obtained showed reduction in bacterial growth after treatment with sanitizer. The result of Staphylococcus aureus was susceptible with a MIC of 6.25mg/ml and 12.5mg/ml respectively for ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts of aloe vera. it was concluded that aimed to formulated and evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of bioactives that showed better antibacterial activity and utilization of herbs in the formulations to given better effect.
