ABSTRACT:
Asthenopia, commonly known as eye strain, is a condition characterized by a group of subjective symptoms such as ocular fatigue, eye discomfort, lacrimation (excessive tearing), headaches, blurred vision, photophobia (light sensitivity) and difficulty in maintaining visual focus over extended periods. These symptoms frequently develop due to prolonged visual activities, including reading, screen exposure and tasks that demand intense eye concentration. With the increasing reliance on digital devices in daily life, the prevalence of asthenopia has risen significantly, highlighting the need for effective preventive and therapeutic strategies. In recent years, interest has grown in the application of plant-based remedies for ocular health. Herba Taraxaci (commonly known as dandelion) has been recognized for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, suggesting its potential in managing visual fatigue. This natural extract may offer protective benefits for the ocular system by reducing inflammation and alleviating the discomfort associated with extended visual tasks. To enhance patient compliance and promote ease of administration, especially for routine use, formulations such as chewable gummies have been explored. These delivery systems are particularly advantageous for individuals seeking non-invasive, convenient options for eye care. Furthermore, ophthalmic formulations containing dandelion extract present a promising for both the prevention and treatment of asthenopia, reflecting a novel approach to ocular therapy through natural, plant-derived ingredients.
