ABSTRACT:
Background: Cancer is a growing global health burden, and while high-income countries dominate oncology research, low- and middle-income countries such as Jordan face increasing cancer incidence with limited representation in global scientific literature. This study presents the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Jordan's contribution to global cancer research from 1974 to 2024. Objectives: To evaluate the research output, impact, thematic trends, and international collaboration patterns of Jordanian cancer research over the past 50 years and to assess its alignment with national cancer priorities. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database for peer-reviewed original research articles affiliated with Jordanian institutions from 1974 to 2024. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix (R package). Trends in publication volume, citation impact, collaboration networks, journal performance and author keyword spots were explored. Results: Among 6,975 cancer-related papers, there are 5,314 original research publications were examined. About 59.8% of publications were published in the last five years, growing 14.5% annually. Jordan contributed 0.134% of global cancer research with 138,461 citations and h-index 111. Jordan University, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), and King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) were research hubs. Epidemiology and preventive, clinical management and palliative care, molecular and cellular biology, and therapeutic innovation (including nanotechnology and AI) were identified as research themes using author keyword analysis. Conclusions: Jordan's cancer research has shown remarkable growth in both volume and impact. While historically underrepresented, the country now contributes significantly to global oncology literature across a broad spectrum of domains.
