ABSTRACT:
The present study focuses on the development of a Nail lacquer based on nanoparticles for the efficient management of onychomycosis, incorporating luliconazole as antifungal agent. Preformulation studies, including UV and FTIR analyses, were conducted to evaluate the compatibility of luliconazole with selected excipients. Solvent evaporation was used to create the nanoparticles with formulation parameters varied to achieve optimal characteristics for transungual delivery. The optimized formulation demonstrated a particle size of 120.12nm, zeta potential of 28mV, polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.137 and an entrapment efficiency of 85%. The formulation was optimised using a 32 factorial design technique, with particle size, entrapment efficiency, and PDI as dependent responses and polymer and surfactant concentrations as independent factors.Stability studies conducted over one month confirmed the formulation’s stability with no significant changes observed. The created nail lacquer loaded with nanoparticles presents a viable and patient-friendly method of treating onychomycosis combining enhanced therapeutic efficacy with sustained drug delivery.
