ABSTRACT:
The study aims to identify the main areas of medical research development in the Republic of Kazakhstan based on an assessment of the research environment. The study was conducted using PESTEL analysis and included a group of experts (n=11) involved in the implementation of clinical trials in Kazakhstan. The study determined that to increase the number of trials, it is necessary to develop a stable institutional framework by creating a sustainable network for the implementation of clinical trials in the country. Enhancing the knowledge and skills of medical professionals in conducting biomedical (clinical) research through strengthening educational programmes and introducing specialised training programmes creates a competitive environment and attracts international research. The regulatory framework for research should correlate with international standards. It is necessary to create a single point of access and unambiguous identification of trials at the country level by creating a register of biomedical trials. Public investment in biomedical research should be improved through grants, subsidies and special funding programmes. The development of the medical research system in Kazakhstan requires infrastructure development, talent development, improvement of the regulatory framework, financing mechanisms and international cooperation in the field of medicine. By following these steps, Kazakhstan will be able to create a competitive biomedical research ecosystem that will stimulate innovation, attract the best talent and contribute to global scientific progress.
