ABSTRACT:
The present study was conducted to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic activities of Dracaena reflexa in experimental standard models using albino rats. The results showed that the methanolic extract significantly reduce the edema induced by carrageenan within 1-hour post dosing at 400mg/kg dose level; at lower dose level of 200mg/kg the extract showed significant effect within 3 hours post dosing. In case of anti-pyretic activity, the extract showed a significant effect where it reduces fever within 1 to 2 hrs on yeast-induced pyrexia rats at all the dose levels used. Based on the presence of high phenolic and flavonoidal content in the plant extract, it can be safely presumed that the reported bioactivities are linked to the high antioxidant secondary metabolites present in the plant.
