ABSTRACT:
Objective: To analyze the trends of the incidence rate of drug poisonings in Colombia 2010 to 2023 and their differences by sex, age groups and natural regions. Methods: Ecological time series study based on 183,631 records of reported cases to the National Public Health Surveillance System (Sivigila) from 2010 to 2023; crude and specific incidence rates were calculated per year; by sex, age group and natural regions, to analyze trends by estimating joinpoints and annual percentage changes (APC) through segmented regression models using the Joinpoint Regression Desktop software version 5.3.0. Results: The standardized incidence rate increased from 15.69 to 43.05 per 100,000 inhabitants between 2010 and 2023, with a statistically significant increasing trend (p<0.05). In women, a sustained increase was observed (APC: 9.03%), while in men the trend was variable, with three different periods. The 11 to 20 years group showed the greatest increase (APC: 12.55%). All natural regions of Colombia showed increases, highlighting the Caribbean region with the highest percentage change. Conclusions: The incidence of drug poisonings in Colombia showed an increasing trend throughout the studied period, with marked differences by sex, age and region.
