ABSTRACT:
Diverse plant parts are referred to have different antioxidant effects due to differences in the distribution of secondary metabolites during their biosynthesis. Mangifera indica L. var. “Madu” is a mango cultivar from Indonesia. This plant possesses the potential to be an effective antioxidant considering that it has been used for generations in traditional medicine by rural communities. This study aims to directly compare the antioxidant properties of various parts of M. indica. L. var. “Madu” plant. The parts of the plant used were leaf, bark, and peel. Extraction was completed by soaking the plant powder with ethanol. The extract gained was then given the code MILE for leaf extract, MIBE for bark extract, and MIPE for peel extract. Antioxidant test was conducted using phosphomolybdenum, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) tests. The findings depicted that the finest concentration of phenolics was gained by MIBE, while the most substantial flavonoids concentration was depicted by MILE. The findings of the antioxidant assessments depicted that MILE was the extract with the strongest antioxidant effect followed by MIBE and MIPE. Overall, this study showed that different plant parts of M. indica L. var. “Madu” have different antioxidant activities and the best antioxidant activity was revealed by the leaves.
