ABSTRACT:
Artemisia stelleriana Besser (syn. Artemisia chinensis Pursh), a perennial species of the Asteraceae family, is native to East Asia and North America. This study examines the anatomical structure, essential oil (EO) composition, and biological activities of A. stelleriana collected in the Russian Far East. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis revealed the presence of a-pinene (44.3%), d-cadinene (10.4%), ?-cadinene (4.8%), and ß-phellandrene (3.2%) as the major constituents. Antimicrobial screening showed weak inhibition against the tested bacterial and fungal strains, while antimalarial evaluation revealed 40% inhibition of Plasmodium falciparum D6. No significant leishmanicidal activity was detected. Anatomical analysis revealed a high density of essential oil glands and schizogenous ducts. These findings contribute to the phytochemical and ethnopharmacological understanding of this underexplored Artemisia species.
