ABSTRACT:
Homoeopathic prescribing patterns are often examined and found to show variable responses between remedies and potencies which need to be evaluated in a systematic statistical manner to determine stability and comparative performance. This study uses adjusted multinomial outcome modeling to determine the therapeutic behavior of Rhus toxicodendron compared to other remedies with alternating action by use of predicted probabilities and ranked outcomes as measured in improvement results from clinical data. This study investigated the patterns of therapeutic response of Rhus tox in comparison with other remedies with alternating action based on information gathered in the period from May 2022 to May 2024 in Department of Homoeopathy, AIIMS, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The observational study included 498 patients treated with eight Homoeopathic medicines in two potencies. Each of the cases was classified into four categories: aggravation, did not report on time (DNROT), improvement and no change. In all improvement was responsible for 39.56% of observations while aggravation occurred only in 10 cases. Bryonia alba (C potency) achieved the highest rate of improvement (61.11%). Pulsatilla (LM potency) had the highest predicted probability of improvement (0.472) and Rhus tox (LM Potency) had an improvement probability of 0.375 according to multinomial logistic regression. Rhus tox was found to be pretty stable in its efficacy showing improvement in 41.38% of C cases and 37.36% of LM cases. Multinomial logistic regression using penalized likelihood handled the sparse cells and gave adjusted outcome probabilities of each remedy. Ranking analyses revealed that Bryonia alba and Pulsatilla surpassed the tests of their own potency group to Rhus Tox. The study provides a comparative view of remedy performance and highlights the necessity for the careful statistical modelling of multinomial outcomes in Homoeopathic research. Two preprocessing strategies, data cleaning (with consistency checks) and categorical coding (through one hot encoding) have been applied before modelling. The findings provide information to practitioners and researchers so that they understand the relative performance of remedies and that the suggestion of remedy potency interactions on influencing the rate of improvement should be considered.
