ABSTRACT:
Trimetazidine dihydrochloride, a piperazine derivative, has long been used as a safe drug for the long-term treatment of chronic ischemic diseases. However, being a metabolic modulator, trimetazidine dihydrochloride has many potential pharmacological effects and can be successfully used in the treatment of various diseases or disorders associated with energy imbalance or metabolic disorders. The aim of this paper is to analyze some of the published studies devoted to the pharmacological effects and mechanisms of action of trimetazidine dihydrochloride, with special attention to the form and dosage in which it was administered, to justify the development of new pharmaceutical dosage forms of this active pharmaceutical substance. The results of the studies reviewed confirm the prospects of using trimetazidine dihydrochloride in the treatment of various diseases other than ischemic ones, and the relevance of its continued existence. Based on this review, it is possible to propose the development of new pharmaceutical dosage forms of trimetazidine dihydrochloride, different from those currently available, or its use in other dosages for the treatment of several metabolic disorders.
